Installing XP on HP dv5-1010us and XP Driver

First Download:( ithink ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller drivers verison : 8.5.0.1032 but not really sure the real version=P)

This file contains the driver you need to slipstream into your XP disk.

Download a program called nLite. Google it and you'll find it pretty quick.

Then follow these instructions, to walk you through creating your new slipstreamed version of XP that will work in installing XP on your DV5-1010us.

Get the '32-bit floppy configuration utility' from Intel.Extract it to a folder.

Install XP this starts from a new XP installation.

Unzip the downloads to a folder or to desktop, you can right click the zip files and select "extract" just follow the wizard and you will end up with 3 folders. During the entire process you will get "Found New Hardware" pop-ups, cancel them all and keep cancelling till they stop coming - except for the final part where you install Wireless Drivers - WLAN which we will get to later.

2. Install XP Drivers

Driver Genius Pro is an application that extracts and backs-up drivers for re-installation, the drivers were extracted from a working XP Acer 5920 and saved as a self extracting installer, this is the exe you will run to re-install the main drivers as follows.

Open the "acer5920_xpdrivers" folder and double click the .exe file. This will start the install process for 90% of the drivers needed. As the installer runs cancel any "Found New Hardware" pop-ups, when finished Reboot

When the PC re-starts it will probably give more "Found New Hardware" pop-ups, cancel them again.

3. Video Drivers

Open the folder "VGA" then the folder "VGA_nVidia_v.101.38_HDDVD"
Scroll through the files and find "setup.exe", Double Click it.
The installer will now set up XP VGA drivers just follow the wizard.

Reboot

4. Wireless Drivers

OK tricky bit now but I will make it as simple as possible for the less PC enabled guys out there. Inside the WLAN folder are various applications and a "drivers" folder. Do not go near any of the contents of this folder until you have installed the drivers as shown below.

If you know what you are doing just bang the drivers in - if not do it like this.

Burn the entire WLAN folder to a CDR, when done eject the CDR and reload it.
Cancel the Autorun Pop-up when it appears - ie select "Take no Action" and OK out of it.
Next click the Start Button then Control Panel - when the control panel appears look at the top left and select "Classic View". In the control panel find "System" icon - Double Click it then select the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager" button.

Scroll down and find the Network Adapters icon and expand it by clicking in the + sign.

In there you will see a yellow "?" labled "unknown network device" or similar, double click on that line which will open a control window. Select the "Driver" tab on the top then click the "Update Driver" button. You will then get the "Found New Hardware" pop-up but this time select the "Install Automatically" button and the Wireless Driver will be found on the CD drive then installed. Follow the ensuing wizard, ignore any dire warnings just click through them this is normal, when finished reboot.

After re-booting you should get the Wireless Icon in the system tray next to the clock, click on this to set up your wireless connection.

That's it XP is installed and functional with all the hardware working.
